Masala Oats Uttapam

Uttapam a traditional south Indians cuisine, a sibling of Dosa, while Dosa is crisp and crepe, Uttapam is thicker and has a topping of Tomato, Onion, coriander, Capsicum, etc. and served with Chutney and sambhar. Often pronounced as Ootappa or Oottappo, generally cooked on a round pan it is 

  • Preparation Time - 20 - 25 mins
  • Cooking Time - 10 -15 mins
  • Serves - 2 - 3 

Ingredients -  

  • Rolled oats - 1.5 cups
  • Rawa - 2.5 tbs
  • Curd - 1 cup
  • Water - 1/2 cup 
  • Baking Soda - 1 tsp
  • Oil - 3 - 4 tbs
  • Onion - 1 medium ( finely chopped)
  • Tomato - 1 medium ( finely chopped)
  • Green Chillis  ( optional) - 1-2 ( finely chopped)

Method - 

 Heat the pan add 1 tbs of oil and start roasting the oats on low flame for 4 - 5 mins now add Rawa and again roast it for 2-3 mins. Switch off the flame and let it cool down completely. Grind it to a fine powder. Take a mixing bowl transfer the mixture add salt as per taste, add curd and mix it well. Now add 2/3 cup of water and make a smooth mixture without any lumps. Cover the bowl and let the mixture soak in for 20 mins. After 20 mins the mixture will be thickened as the Rawa and oats will absorb access water. Now add 1/4 cup of water and adjust the consistency, you can add some more water if required. Now add 1 tsp of baking soda to the mixture and mix it well.

Making Uttapam

On a medium flame heat, the nonstick pan or cast iron pan drizzle some oil and spread properly. Now lower the flame and pour the batter on the pan with help of a ladle. Spread the batter and let it sit for a few seconds now spread the veggies, green chillis, and coriander and press the veggies lightly, so they stick to the batter. Sprinkle a few drops of oil at the sides of the uttapam cook till the base is done. You can cover with a lid for 1-2 mins also on low flame. Flip it and cook the other side also. Sprinkle a few drops of oil and cook it till it turns a little golden. Your Oats Masala Uttapam is ready. Serve it with green coriander chutney or coconut chutney or any other chutney of your choice.

Take one tablespoon of oil add baking soda and mix it well and it the batter for better result
