Quick N Easy Chivda Mixture

What would best compliment an evening tea or coffee?  Well!! you might guess butter cookies or Rusk maybe Aloo Bhujia or some branded ready mixture. Nope, best would be some homemade snack that is not only tasty but also a light on the stomach, so you don't have to miss your dinner.

Ingredients

  • Flattened Puffed Rice 2 cups (1/2 kg)
  • Peanuts  1/2 cup
  • Cashew  1/2 cup sliced
  • Dry Coconut 1/2 cup
  • Cornflakes  1/2 cup
  • Green chillies  3 - 4 chopped 
  • A few curry leaves
  • Mustard Seeds 1 tbs
  • Cumin Seeds  1 tbs
  • Turmeric Powder  1 - 2 tsp
  • Asafoetida 1 tsp
  • Dry red chillies 2
  • Powdered Sugar  1 tbs
  • Dry Mango Powder 1 tbs
  • Salt to taste 
  • Rock Salt to taste
  • Oil 4 - 5 tbs

Directions

Chivda Mixture is homemade snack with dry fruits, cornflakes, curry leaves and mild spices.


  • Heat a pan add chivda / flattened rice and dry roast on a medium flame for 7 - 8 mins. remove and keep aside.
  • Heat oil in the same pan add 1 tbsp of oil add peanuts and roast till it turns golden brown.
  •  Similarly, roast cornflakes and cashews also and keep them aside.
  • Now for tempering take the same pan take 1/2 tsp  - 1 tbs oil add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, asafoetida, dry red chillies, chopped green chillies and curry leaves saute on a medium flame for few seconds.
  • Add all the roasted ingredients together add salt, rock salt and sugar mix everything well.
  • Add the tempering and mix all together. Your Chivda Mixture is ready.

  • You can also add oats along with chivda / flattened rice.
  • To make it more healthy you can add pumpkin seeds to this mixture.
