Aam Panna - Cool Mango Drink

Aam Panna is a very refreshing drink made using raw mangoes, fresh mint leaves, and few spices. It's great for digestion and boosts energy levels. It has heat-resistant properties too and helps especially in regions with high summer temperatures. Try it this summer and feel cool, rejuvenated like never before. Here is how to make Aam ka Panna recipe with mint at home.

  • Preparation Time  20 - 25 minutes
  • Cooking Time  5 minutes
  • Serves  6 - 7

Ingredients

  • Raw Mangoes  1/2 kg
  • Fresh Mint Leaves  1 cup
  • Sugar  1/2 cup to 1 cup (as per taste)
  • Cumin Powder  2 tbsp
  • Water 5 - 6 cups
  • Rock Salt to taste
  • Salt to taste
  • Asafoetida (opt)  1/2 tsp

Directions

Aam Panna is all time favorite drink during hot Indian summer, made with raw pulpy mangoes, mint leaves, salt and some mild spices including cumin seeds that compliments the flavors of mint and mango.
  • In a pressure cooker add raw mangoes and pour 2 cups of water, cover the lid and cook for 2 -3 whistles on high flame or until mangoes are well cooked.
  • Peel the skin when the mangoes are completely cool down.
  • Scrape the pulp of mangoes and transfer them to a blending jar. use the boiled raw mango water for blending smooth.
  • Now add mint leaves, and blend them into a smooth puree.
  • Add rock salt, salt, and cumin powder to the concentrate.
  • To serve, in glass take a spoonful of aam panna concentrate, and add a few ice cubes, chilled water, and mix well.
  • Serve chilled!

Instant Kitchenette Tip

  • Strain the aam panna concentrate before adding the spices.
  • Add asafoetida to the aam panna concentrate for better digestion.
  • Peeling the skin of mango before boiling makes the process easy.
  • If the panna is not tangy you can also add lemon juice.
  • You can use jaggery powder instead of sugar.
