Homemade Masala Chaas

Chaas/Butter Milk as you call. It is a very popular and refreshing drink across India during summer. This staple Indian summer spiced buttermilk is so refreshing, delicious, and healthy. Made with curd, spices, and herbs. It takes only 5 minutes to make and can be served after lunch, dinner, or any time of the day.

Ingredients for Chaas Masala

  • Dry Mango Powder  2 tbsp
  • Cinamon Stick  1 big
  • Black Whole Pepper  15
  • Dry Ginger Powder  2 tbsp
  • Cloves  8
  • Dry Mint 1 tbsp
  • Cumin Seeds  1tsp
  • Black Salt 5 tsp
  • Salt 5 tsp

Ingredients for Chaas

  • Curd 1/2cup
  • Water  1 cup
  • Prepared Masala 1 tbsp
  • Ice as required
  • Mint leaves or coriander leaves for garnish

Directions

Chaas is basically a yogurt based drink which cools your system from the inside. Basically plain chaas is very famous in Gujarat and Rajasthan. Tradionally, chaas is made by churning or mixing yogurt and water with madhani also known as whipper.
  • Take all the dry ingredients and make a powder of it.
  • Take 1/2 cup of curd, add 1 cup of water, 1 tbsp of prepared masala chaas put everything in a mixer grinder, and blend it for few seconds. 
  • Adjust the salt if required, add ice cubes, and it's ready to serve.
  • Garnish with mint or coriander leaves.

Instant Kitchenette Tip

  • To enhance the flavor and color add tempering (oil, curry leaves, mustard leaves) to the chaas.
