Stuffed Rawa Idli

Idli an original south Indian snack or breakfast food, but it is very popular in the Indian sub-continent and as you know with popularism comes variation. Stuffed Rawa Idli is another way to discover Idli. If you are bored of having the same normal idli again and again, then I would recommend trying this stuffed raw idli. It is a super easy, filling, and scrumptious South Indian Breakfast with a twist. The best part is just one batter and a simple filling makes it completely different.

Ingredients

  • Semolina (Rava) 2 cups
  • Curd  1 cup
  • Water  1/2 - 1 cup
  • Salt to taste
  • Asafoetida 1/2 tsp
  • Boiled potatoes 2 - 3 
  • Green Peas  1/4 cup
  • Onion 1 medium chopped
  • Curry leaves
  • Green Chilies to taste
  • Mustard seeds 
  • Cumin Seeds 
  • Turmeric 1/2 tsp
  • Lemon juice 1/2 tsp
  • Fresh Coriander
  • Fruit Salt  1 tsp
  • Oil 3 - 4 tbsp

Directions For Stuffing

Stuffed Rava Idli is an easy to make breakfast food this south Indian Savoury rice cake is tasty and light on stomach
  • In a pan, heat 2 tbsp oil add mustard seeds, asafoetida, cumin seeds, curry leaves, and saute them for few seconds, add green chilies and saute for few more seconds.
  • Now add boiled potatoes, green peas, salt cook for 3 - 4 minutes.
  • Add some freshly chopped coriander, lemon juice, and turn off the flame. 
  • Cooldown the mixture, shape it into a small tikki, and keep aside.

For Idli

  •  In a mixing bowl add semolina (Rava), Curd, Salt, and give a good mix. let it rest for 20 minutes.
  • After 20 minutes add water gradually and whisk well. the batter should be flowy, not runny.
  • Add fruit salt just before steaming the idlis.
  • Meanwhile, place the water in the idli steamer and start heating.
  • Grease the idli mold with oil or ghee.
  • Fill the batter halfway, place the tikki in the middle of the batter, and top the other half with the batter.
  • Steam the idlis for 8 - 10 minutes.
  • To check whether idlis are cooked or not, prick a toothpick, if it comes out clean it's cooked.
  • Cooldown the idli for 3 - 4 minutes before demolding.
  • Enjoy this fusion with your favorite chutney or dip.

Instant Kitchenette Tip

  • To enhance the flavor of idli you can fry them with some curry leaves and mustard seeds after demolding.
